Hi! I’m Alicia, your DIY website Coach!
I have a passion for inspiring and empowering others to live authentic, spontaneous and creative lives. I also has a passion for WordPress.
I created WP with Heart as a way to meld those two passions together in the service of others.
I’ve been a professional WordPress consultant for nearly 20 years, building custom solutions for clients in various walks of life: authors, artists, cartoonists, bio engineers, festival producers, fitness coaches, teachers, non-profits, contractors – you name it!
You may have caught me speaking at a WordCamp (once, wearing a unicorn headdress. No joke). I’ve presented at over 15 events, including WordCamp Los Angeles, WordCamp Orange County, WordCamp San Diego and WordCamp Phoenix.
I also run an online WordPress Meetup twice a month, helping folks demystify all things WordPress. It’s been going strong for over 7 years.
I was a fine artist for over 15 years and I’ve kept my aesthetic eye and poured it into web design so I aim to make beautiful things for the web.

Content Strategy
The fundamentals of Content Strategy and Why it’s important to plan what you want to say and who you want to say it to. We’ll investigate your Mission statement and discover the WHY behind what you’re doing. And together we’ll craft content that makes your Call to Action irresistible.
Personas and Client Avatar
The WHO is vitally important to your success. You’ve got to target the right people, the ones who resonate with what you’re providing. We’ll work on building those client avatars, working on them until they feel like one of the family!
Site Architecture and Organization
So, now that you know what you want to say and WHY and for WHOM, let’s organize that content so that no one gets lost on your site and especially so your message doesn’t get lost. We also want to make Google Happy!
Creating Your Branding
Now, we get to dress it all up with visual imagery. What color combo will you use? What font families will you unite on your website pages? Are you the brand? Or your business/offering?
Installing and Setting Up Your WordPress Site
We are going to install WordPress on your hosting server, then install the plugins and theme you’ll be using. You’ll get a crash course on basic WordPress usage then we’ll set up that site architecture and create custom post types and custom fields for your content. Nerdie, I know. But, not scary!
Putting it All Together
Okay, it’s time to build. Yes, there may be geeky stuff here, but you’ll be glad you’ve gained some brainiac knowledge. And I make it painless. I promise! And since we are in the era of Gutenberg, the new editing experience for WordPress, that is the train we’ll be hopping.
Your Golden Email List
Building your email list is one of the most important things you can do to grow your business or gain wider exposure. Sure, you may have loads of Facebook, Instagram or Twitter followers, but you OWN your email list and you can have much more personal engagement. We’ll be using ActiveCampaign (or similar software if you prefer). We’ll be adding an email capture form to your site and learn about email sequencing and automation, and lead magnets! We’ll cover the no-no’s of mass emailing, too!
Picture This: Images and Your WordPress Site
One of the most important aspects of your site will the photographs and graphics you use. Choosing compelling, unique imagery helps you stand apart and also livens up your site. You’ll also learn how to optimize your images for the web, how to make sure you get the SEO juice out of them and that they are accessible to those who can’t see them.
Let’s Go, SEO!
That’s how you’re found, friends. And there are a few things you’ll have do to take advantage of SEO (Search Engine Optimization). It’s not just about keywords. It’s about that wonderful content strategy we’ve carefully crafted. It’s also about performance. This is where image size matters! And why I talked you out of the slider! 😉 And finally, we enter the wonderful world of Schema!
Instagram: A Social Start
I chose Instagram as our token social media foray. Why? Because it’s one of the best ways to express yourself and gain social followers. Plus, it’s relatively simple and so much fun! You’ll learn about hashtagging; how to organize your posts in a more pleasing and flattering way; . what to post. We’ll also be diving into Canva to create content and you’ll learn how to build your LinkTree!
The Funnel is Cake!
You’ve heard the term “Funnel” and maybe you scratched your head a little? It’s simply a term for getting your niche to you so you can serve them. This doesn’t have to be overly complex, yet some funnels can Well, guess what? By the time you hit this session, you’ve accrued all the ingredients for a basic funnel. In this session I’ll introduce you to a beginner funnel. With this knowledge you can boldly go forth and create a funnel of love!
Penciling in with Automated Scheduling
You may think you don’t need scheduling software. Well, it is one of those things that once you start using it, you realize you’ve ALWAYS had a need for it. We’ll go over the basics of using a scheduling platform then set up calendars that work for you while you’re sleeping. You can do other things rather than emailing back and forth, doing “What-time-is-good-for-you?” tango!

Did you know that 96.8% of web home pages have issues that make it difficult for people with disabilities to access the content? That means 3.2% are doing it right. How long before I have a website?
A true functional website that works for you and your site visitors takes weeks, sometimes months to create. This course isn’t intended to produce and “insta-site”. It’s a thoughtful, intentional, personal and effective endeavor. You are creating an online representative of you and your services. We want to get it right. We also want to create something that scales with you and your dreams. With that said, I know folks can get antsy. So, I’ve developed a process to get you a one page website up and running while you calmly build out the site behind the scenes. This is why we concentrate on Content First!
I already have a website. How will this course help me improve it?
Bravo to you for getting online! If you already have a website it’s actually a bonus. We can mine it for existing content and this gives us a head start! You’ll be swapping your current site out for the awesome new one we’ll be building together. We’ll be building your new site on a staging environment which means your current site doesn’t have to go anywhere until we’re sure the new one is going to
How many sessions should I schedule each week?
You’ll be learning a lot. You’ll also need time to do assignments and tasks after each lesson. So, with that in mind, it’s best to schedule a new session after we’ve met and it’s best to schedule one a week or, if you’re eager to learn, no more than two sessions in one week with at least three days in between each session. You’ll want to really get the most out the course and rushing things before you’re ready for the next step isn’t advisable.
Are the sessions times flexible?
Absolutely! In fact, I encourage scheduling when it’s convenient for you. However, we stick to scheduling one session at a time since each session is custom tailored to you and the time needed before the next session may fluctuate depending on the lesson. Now, since you can schedule when it’s convenient for you, it’s best to not leave long gaps of time between each sessions. Consistency it the key to success here. Don’t be surprised it I ping you to check in!
